A versatile drawing practice you can do instead of filling sketchbooks.
got this lovely gift from an artist friend recently: a matchbox filled with little cards the size of the matchbox. He had made a small, beautiful composition on each of these cards. It’s a stunningly generous gift.
I wanted to try it, too. I took a relatively large matchbox, removed the matches, cut paper to the size where it would fit in the matchbox, and drew on these little cards for a few days.
I learned that these cards are perfect for drawing warm-ups; you can use them to try little things and experiment. It is okay if one card doesn’t come out well because it takes little time to draw them. But if they do come out well, it is very satisfying; you made a miniature work of art! You can give it away, write your contact info on the back, use it as a business card, or collect it in matchboxes.
Or you could even sell them.
